Openings Concrete Walls

Working from engineered drawings we began by cutting six openings through the brick veneer and the concrete block wall above.

There are two types of prestressed lintel includes composite lintels and non composite lintels. Prestressed concrete lintels for openings in walls this type of lintel is employed mostly for internal openings. Mark the opening size for the door on both sides of the wall. Add another set of marks across the top of the frame to represent a steel lintel that will support the load above the door.

The opening should be two inches wider than the door frame and about an inch taller in height. It can also develop small pinhole openings that act as capillaries for water transmission. Next we installed four shoring towers two on each side of the wall to support the masonry wall. The bottom of each opening must be not more than 1 foot above the higher of the final interior grade or floor and the finished exterior grade immediately under each opening. Seal the entire concrete wall with a waterproof masonry. When jonkman construction needed to cut out 15 each 2 x 7 window openings in a pre cast concrete wall in just one day they called on us. The creation of large openings in walls removes a significant quantity of concrete and steel reinforcement necessarily reducing the load capacity of the wall.
